For some couples, the adventure elopement appeal lies in the early morning start, the hikes up the mountain, and the wild landscapes you can gaze upon on the day you say your vows. For others, it’s a combination of those beautiful elements and something more–that it’s a totally non-traditional way to pledge your love to your significant other.
For Dami and Josh, choosing to elope was about choosing what they wanted for their day without regard for traditions.
Dami and Josh’s Grand Teton National Park elopement was anything but traditional–something they both appreciated.
When Josh and Dami decided to get married, they both agreed that they’d forgo tradition. In fact, Dami proposed to Josh first–with a shiny, origami ring she made for him. When they got engaged, they both wore engagement rings. (Because, as Dami says, why should just women wear engagement rings?)
As a couple, Dami and Josh were relaxed, carefree, and committed to the idea of planning an elopement day that was exactly what they wanted.
They were so flexible with any curveballs thrown their way because at the end of the day, all they really wanted was to get married–expectations, pressure, and stress were never part of the equation for them.
These two mathematicians chose a gorgeous spot in Grand Teton National Park because it was the first step on their journey together–not just their marriage, but on their journey toward new jobs across the country. They left Washington state and made a special stop in Wyoming for their elopement.
Their elopement day was planned pretty quickly and spontaneously–but that doesn’t mean it lacked any detail or support. Their friends and family flew in, dedicated and ready to support them as they took this next step in life together.
We started at sunrise in a beautiful spot in the Tetons. Unfortunately, the weather had other plans for their day. They spent some time, just the two of them, soaking in the few sunrise moments we could muster. We captured a few photos but ultimately decided to scurry back to their Airbnb to avoid the bad weather.
Dami and Josh took it all in stride, cozying up in the Airbnb, freshening up, and preparing for their ceremony with their friends and family.
Dami and Josh had picked a beautiful spot overlooking some of the peaks of the Tetons. There, surrounded by enormous trees, their friends and family brought in folding white chairs, ready to watch Dami and Josh pledge their lives to each other.
When the ceremony began, Dami and Josh did something so beautifully them. They couldn’t decide who should read their vows first, so they launched into a quick game of rock, paper, scissors to decide the winner.
These two people were so fun, so go-with-the-flow, and so ready to get married that the entire day was filled with bliss, joy, and intention–nothing was going to stand in their way.
Dami and Josh read their vows in front of their family and friends–dedicated people who had flown all this way to support them and love them. After the ceremony, everyone gathered to share the wedding cake, a special treat that Dami had baked (and Josh had decorated)–more evidence that they’re a perfect fit for each other.
After toasts, cakes, and some photos with loved ones, Dami and Josh snuck away for a bit to experience the magic of the Tetons at sunset.
We explored a few intimate spots, capturing meaningful moments of them in the grandeur of the mountain peaks.
As they embraced their moments by a water’s edge, they pulled each other in close. The glow of the sunset was all around them.
To me, capturing moments like these is what makes every moment worth it. Couples like Dami and Josh–carefree, flexible, and deeply in love–are what make it worth it, too.
They’re further evidence that a day can be beautiful, meaningful, and forever memorable no matter how much (or how little) planning was involved in the day.
