What comes to mind when you think of Utah? Sandstone arches, slot canyons, and deserts is usually the side of Utah that is shown. But this Park City Utah elopement displays another beautiful aspect of Utah’s scenery.
Park City allows you to take advantage of the truly untouched beauty of Utah.
This elopement was at the amazing Church of Dirt, near Salt Lake City. I was blown away the first time I heard of this venue and even more so when I first experienced it. Besides being breathtaking visually, the way that it operates is truly beautiful.
A unique spot tucked away in the mountains on private land. Some time ago, someone built a beautiful rustic arbor and benches where couples can come together with their loved ones and say their wedding vows surrounded by mountains, wildflowers, and the open sky. The wedding dates are reserved by writing your names, date, and time in the planning book and participating in the tradition of also writing your name and date on a rock or sign so other couples can clearly see what dates are taken. Near the entrance, there is an area that is full of these rocks and signs, acting as natural “Save the Date’s.”
That’s right, this venue operates on the honor system. I believe it’s one of the best places to elope or have an intimate wedding near Salt Lake City. Not just because of its untouched beauty but it also reminds me of the good in the world. Thanks to someone building this arbor, couples have an option that otherwise might’ve only been a distant dream for them and their families.
So, what should you keep in mind before planning a Park City elopement
Plan in Advance
The Church of Dirt has grown in popularity year by year (for obvious reasons!) So be sure to plan as far in advance as possible!
Be Specific
There can be more than one wedding on one day so be as specific as you can when writing in the planning book the times you’ll need. (For example, 1:00-3:00 pm would work because about 2 hours gives you enough time to have your ceremony with your loved ones and pictures!)
Time of Year
If you plan on having your elopement at the Church of Dirt keep in mind it’s a fully outdoor venue! You will be exposed to the elements and on top of a mountain, because of this the best time to have your wedding is June-September! (Try to avoid the snow season since snowstorms can close down the roads and paths)
Now, let’s talk about Alyssa and Jorge’s special Park City Elopement!
The day started early! It was a beautiful sunrise ceremony. The mountains filled the scenery, the wild flowers and beautiful Purple Fireweed surrounded us, and the sunlight bathed everything golden. Alyssa’s father walked besides her down the aisle in the crisp morning air to her future husband.
It was really important for the couple to include everyone and bring the families together despite some language barriers. Love doesn’t know or listen to obstacles of any kind, especially not language. The vows were said in English and in Spanish so both families could understand their promises to each other. Then, after the vows were exchanged, they were declared husband and wife and the families embraced each other. Then we took bride and groom photos of Alyssa and Jorge while the guests enjoyed coffee and donuts. After that, they went back to be with their families for a bit and did family photos!
Then we departed from the family and had cake and champagne before we said our goodbyes and they met back up with their family for a reception and celebrations at a nearby restaurant.
